Leal Vineyards Wine Review

Léal Vineyards is one of those little known wineries that you are not likely to hear about unless you are in the right place at the right time. But, once you stumble upon one of their wines and give it a taste, you are sure to be a longtime fan. In fact, as most of their releases are small productions, and the wines are so good, it may be tempting to keep your newly discovered secret all to yourself.

Winemaker and owner Frank Léal has a vision and does things, not necessarily the traditional way, but his way. The grapes are selected based on flavor…not numbers. The barrels are painstakingly tested prior to harvest. And, most of the wines are bottled unfiltered (something which I love in wine!), which could be a risky for the winemaker.

For specific wine offerings, their 100% Cabernet Sauvignon would be my preference of any of their varieties. However, their blends and their 100% Syrah are quite enjoyable. While the price of their cabernet is getting a bit expensive, most of their other wines are very reasonable. And, that is really the biggest trick in the world of wine today…to discover great wines at a still-affordable prices.

They also have premium very small production wine called “Godsend” Cabernet Sauvignon. It does, unfortunately, carry along a price tag to match its name. While I have not yet had the pleasure of sampling this gem personally, I hope to do so in the near future.  I understand it is quite “sinful”.

If you have the chance, be sure to give them a sample and post your comments. And, Shhhh…remember, our secret!
